The 2016 Election - A 17 Year Old Girl's Perspective

This is not the kind of post I would put on this blog. I had another post lined up but I felt this issue was something I should address. I am a 17 year old girl, I live in California, and live in a diverse community. Around 60% of the people at my school are Latino.I, like most millennials started
this election with Bernie, and then went to Hilary, as she reflected my views best out of all the candidates. Donald Trump made me laugh in his campaign but I also feared him, I feared that he would harm me and the ones around me. As I watched the election results on Tuesday night, I was filled with dread, and fear. thought it was a nightmare, and deciding I did not want to face the results, I went to sleep before the winner was decided. Wednesday morning I woke up at 5:45 AM, and immediately checked my phone for the results. When I saw the results, my heart broke. I began crying because I was so scared and shocked. I recovered, and began my morning routine per usual, when I thought of my friends, and family. I thought of my latino and latina friends who were so afraid of losing their families, my little Ethiopian cousins who have such bright futures ahead of them, my grandmother, who is not Muslim, yet who wears a scarf on her head for religious reasons. I cried and was terrified. I talked to my friend whose parents are immigrants. When her 10 year old little sister found out the results she cried, and her parents said "we need a plan". I was terrified for my friend and her family. I called my mother, who hadn't heard about the results yet, and urged me to have faith in this system. I calmed down and went to get a tea from Peet's. An man in his 50s asked me how I was, and I replied that I was ok. He replied saying that we had a scary four years ahead of us, and when I brought up my friends sister crying, he said "there are many children crying today". I got to school and there was a somber air that wrapped around the school. There was more silence then ever, and fear. In the hallway, I witnessed teachers crying, and throughout the day heard of more  breaking down. Almost everyone was shell shocked and numb. As I ended the school day, I thought more about this. The result was scary, and horrifying but I also saw it as an opportunity. When thinking about the situation I was afraid but I felt we must fight. When racism, misogyny, and rape culture is elected, we must fight back. We must first educate ourselves to differentiate from those who are not educated, and educate others. We must speak out, and let our voice be heard. We must speak out for those who cannot speak. We must be an example to the younger generation who look at us with fear filled eyes. We must comfort each other in this time of need, and have hope.We must not allow this to limit us because so many of us have bright, bright, futures. We must work harder in our own individual lives to create the change this country needs. We  must stand as allies to all the communities being threatened. We must help others when they are scared, and prevent more pain then is needed. We must fight, in our own lives, communities, and country. I urge you all, as a 17 year old girl who longs for a bright future, to act. This is not the end, this is the beginning.

October Favorites 2016

Hello All!
October has flown by! It was full of spooks and laughs, and while I'm sad to see it go, I am welcoming November with open arms. I thought I would share what I have been loving this month! I hope you enjoy it!

Sweater
This sweater is one of my favorite pieces and I have been wearing it a lot. I got it at LF a month or two ago and I fell in love! I love a loose, roll down turtleneck and this one is absolutely perfect. It's super cute with the black and white tones, and goes with literally everything! It's also cropped which means I can layer it with high waisted jeans and skirts for extra warmth but still a cute look.

NARS Duo Eye shadow - Isolode
This is my go to eye shadow. I am such a sucker for golds, and this eye shadow is the cream of the crop when it comes to shimmery gold eye shadows. Although it is my go to, I used it a lot more this month as October is when it really feels like fall in NorCal. We actually got a lot of rain and chilly weather and the leaves were all falling
.

Pumpkin Spice Latte
Let me explain first, that when I talk about the Pumpkin Latte I am talking about the hot Peet's Pumpkin Latte. I know I am the epitome of a basic girl but let me just say I fell in love with this drink. Last year, I tried Starbucks  PSL and just wasn't that big of a fan, however with this latte, the balance between the pumpkin and coffee is just so perfect and I love it so much.

TT - Twice
Last year, I fell in love with Twice. (My bias is Momo!) They are all so pretty and their most recent comeback was so good. TT is so catchy and the music video is very well-produced. Also the styling is so great. The mini-album is awesome too. My favorite songs are TT, Jelly Jelly, Next Page, and One in a Million. I reccomend this to anyone who's into light bubblegum pop music

Stranger Things
The show that rocked the summer, was really impressive I must say. Netflix really outdid themselves. Honestly, it's so well written and directed that I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It was great to watch this during October which is the spooky month, so it was definitely a fun experience!

PPAP
Am I allowed to put this? Like it's a meme but honestly it's one of my favorite things, its so funny and cute and I love dancing to it, and seeing others imitate it. It just makes me happy and it's something I really love so I decided to put it on here.

So those were my favorites, what are yours? Let me know! Also let me know if you like these kinds of posts. :)

October Reads

Hello all! I have been trying to read more recently as I love to do it, but as I have grown older, I have found it harder to find time to read. However, I was able to read some more this month and I figured I would share my favorite reads from last month. Let me know if you like these kinds of posts!

NASTY GALAXY - Sophia Amoruso
Last year I read Girl Boss, and fell absolutely in love with it. Amoruso's down-to-earth tone makes it feel like I'm getting advice from a friend. Nasty Galaxy certainly lived up to that tone, with features on girl bosses, horoscopes, song lyrics, life advice and more. It's pretty image heavy, but the books so diverse  it adds to it in an amazing way.

The Thousandth Floor -Katharine McGee
The Thousandth Floor is such an beautiful book, I love the black and gold theme it has. This book is set in the future and covers the lives of different characters, each with different secrets, but they are linked. The book starts off a little slow, but as you get more into it, it becomes more fast-paced.

Luckiest Girl Alive - Jessica Knoll
This book is officially one of my favorites, it goes over the story of Ani, who's high school past haunts her in her present day job. She is successful, beautiful and engaged to the perfect man it seems, but as her past haunts her, she is forced to reflect. This book was so easy to follow, I loved it and the development we see the main character go through.
