Elegant Pink Look

So, I recently went to a wedding, and was able to get all dolled up for the first time in awhile, and I loved the look so much, I figured I would share it with you! With wedding season upon us, and more party's coming up I love getting all dressed up in a cute little number. I especially love this dress from Nasty Gal, which I've had for literally over a year, but just  haven't had an occasion to break out. The patterns are gorgeous, and I am in love with it. It fits so nicely, and looks gorgeous! I love these shoes too, but they also tend to fall down a lot and come untied which is annoying, but they are such a steal for this trendy style that is currently on trend. The faux fur vest is amazing too, and perfect for just popping on for a warm light touch to an outfit which I love! If you are looking for inspiration for a classy, elegant, feminine look I think this look is perfect for you! I hope you enjoyed it!

Last Minute V-Day Treats!

Hello! A lot of you probably don't know this about me since I post primarily fashion and beauty but I love to bake. I even started a baking club at my school this year! Baking is something I love and I love to share with  others! That being said I figured I would share some of my favorite easy Valentines day treats for that special someone you've been eyeing. These are great last minute sweets for procrastinators like me so this is for you gals! (Disclaimer - none of these recipes are mine, and I am not a chef or anything, I just like sweet things)

Vanilla Cupcakes with Strawberry Icing
I'm starting off with something fun and something (I would hope) most people would like. If you see Vanilla and your like bleh, then no worries! You can always make chocolate if you or your special someone is a fan of chocolate, you can replace the vanilla cupcakes with chocolate, but I'm more of a vanilla gal so I went with it instead of chocolate. These are super yummy and the strawberry icing is deadly it is so good.

Here's the recipe for the vanilla cupcakes -here
Or you can just use a store-bought cupcake mix!

Strawberry Icing

  • 1/2 cup of strawberries - pureed
  • 1 cup of butter
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 1/2 cups of powdered/confectioners sugar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Place strawberries in the bowl of a small food processor; process until pureed. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat together butter and salt on medium speed until light and fluffy. Reduce mixer speed and slowly add confectioners' sugar; beat until well combined. Add vanilla and  strawberry puree ; mix until just blended. Frosting consistency should be dense and creamy, like ice cream.

Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Icing
I love red velvet cupcakes and they are super fitting for Valentines day because they are - red, like everything that revolves around Valentine's day. These are super cute and easy to make and I love making them! Also they make soooo much it's unbelievable so you can share them with others or save them for yourself for awhile!
Red Velvet Cupcake Recipe -here
I love this one, it;s super amazing and I go to it every time I bake these!

Donuts
If you are not a cupcake gal, and you are looking for a slightly healthier funner more unique kind of treat, then these donuts are for you. They are super sweet and light, and perfect if you love donuts but don't like that heavy feeling they leave you with. And they're super cute, so try them out!

  • 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp whipping cream (plus a little extra, if needed)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup confectioner’s sugar
  • pink/red food coloring
  • edible glitter (optional)

  1. Combine the milk and vinegar in a small bowl. Place in the fridge for 15 minutes to chill – this makes homemade buttermilk!
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl and set aside. In a large bowl, combine the butter, sugar, honey, egg and vanilla extract. Add the buttermilk and mix until combined. Add the dry ingredients and mix until just combined – make sure not to overmix.
  3. Spoon the batter into a piping bag fitted with a round tip and pipe into a greased doughnut pan. Bake at 400F for 7 minutes. Cool for 1 minute in the pan, then flip the pan over to remove the doughnuts and cool completely on a wire rack.
  4. Make the glaze: Whisk together 1 tbsp half and half cream and the vanilla extract. Add the confectioner’s sugar and whisk until fully combined. If the glaze is too thick, add a dash more whipping cream.
  5. Dunk the doughnuts into the glaze and return to the wire rack. Sprinkle some edible glitter on top. Allow the glaze to dry for 20 minutes, and enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed these, and I hope you can make them with your significant other or for yourself this Valentine's day! Happy eating!

January Favorites 2017

January is over and the month of lurrvvv is here! Happy February, and happy Black History Month too! January just flew by and I enjoyed so many things I thought I would share some of my favorites with you!
Boots - here
Ok, these boots- these boots are MY LIFE. I want to die in these, give birth in these, I want to get married in these. (Ok, maybe not) These boots are super cute, and I love them. I love the embroidered designs, and how they go around the back. They are gorgeous and super comfortable despite being heeled. They have a wide fit which I usually don't like but these boots are an exception.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance
I have used this palette non-stop this month, I am a lover of warm tones so this palette was compltetly down my alley.  I usually go for shimmery colors on my eyes and if I'm being honest mattes kinda scare me. However, since this palette is primarily mattes with some shimmers I obviously had to branch out, and I must say I am in love with mattes now. The colors in this palatte are so pigmented and gotgeous, I have been loving them, and everyone has been asking what I'm using on my eyes because they're so gorgeous.
Choker - here
I've had this choker for awhile now, but I haven't really worn it as much until recently. It's super thick and the velvet has these slight red undertones which I adore. I find that this choker pulls any outfit together in a chic way. It goes with a lot of my black clothing (AKA most of my wardrobe) and gives them that nice 90's touch.
Hat - here
When I saw this hat I fell in love, lieutenant hats have been super trendy right now too. I love the faux suede and the color is absolutely gorgeous. It ads a cute girly touch to an outfit and I love it sooo much. I don't have that much to say because I feel like the hat speaks for itself!
Glasses - here
Aviators are super in right now, and I am all about them. I have 20/20 vision so I don't need real glasses, but that doesn't  matter because I have these glasses! They are super cute and slightly oversized to give that nerdy look that I tend to like. Also these glasses are sunglasses and protect my eyes from UV rays. I get annoyed with sunglasses a lot because I'm not a fan of the tint a lot so these are amazing in my opinion.
EOS Lip Balm - here
Lets be real, if you are using any liquid lipstick you need a bomb lip balm. Even if they aren't super drying, they dry your lips out a little bit. This lip balm has been my go to and it is so portable. You can just slip this in your pocket and go out the door with it.The scent is subtle and gorgeous too which is awesome.  Also the circular packaging is super nice and stores so much product.
Sheer Top - here
Sheer is super in right now and I have been living for it. I have been living in this glitter sheer top from Brandy Melville. It goes with so much and is honestly gorgeous. If you are looking for a sheer top this is definitely one I would recommend it. It;s super fun and sexy but also classy and mature depending on how you wear it.
Little Mix - Glory Days - Buy here
I'm pretty sure I'm kind of late on this train but this album is amazing. I love the musical growth that Little Mix has gone through with this album a lot. I loved Get Weird so I was kind of worried that this album would disappoint me but it didn't. The album has a lot of variety and I would say there's something for everyone on it! My personal favorites off the album are Oops, Touch, Beep Beep and Freak.
Seohyun - Don't Say No - Buy here
If you haven't listened to this album you are missing out!! I was genuinely surprised for this album. This is by Korean girl groups Girls Generation, Seohyun's solo debut and it was very well done. The music is pretty mature and alluring in my opinion, and I fell in love with the album. My personal favorites are Magic, Bad Love and Love and Affection.
Hidden Figures
This movie is amazing. 10/10 would recommend  for sure, I love it so much. The plot line is amazing, and the acting makes it even better. I loved it so much and I recommend everyone should watch it. I think that in a tine where race and women are being suppressed under our new president movies like these are really important and empowering for us. Everything in this movie was great and a beautiful tribute to the African American women working under NASA.
Theodd1sout - Watch here
In January I stumbled upon a Youtube channel called TheOdd1sOut, and boy did I laugh hard. The animation and James storied are awesome and I found myself watching all of his videos. He makes comics too (as seen above) and is super talented. If your looking for a laugh I would definitely check his channel out.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! Let me know what you loved this month!

Hello! It has been quite a hot minute since I last posted, and I am so sorry! Life has just been a whirlwind recently, and I haven't been able to post. But enough excuses - I'm back! I love this outfit so much, as I am obsessed with these pieces recently. I love black so much (in case you haven't noticed from all of my black outfits) and I love the different textures that are present here, which diversifies the look, along with the pop of color.  I love how it combines edgy with sleek in this look. This outfit was super fun to put together and I hope you enjoy it too!

Coloring Books and Bath Bombs - Your Best De-Stresser

Let's be real, we're all stressed at one point at another and could use all the help we can get de-stressing. And I'm here to tell you two things that will change your life from stressful to stress free. If you have not heard of the adult coloring book and bath  phenonmon then you, my friend are missing out, for various reasons. Not only are baths and coloring books both super relaxing, fun, and pretty freaking gorgeous, they are also awesome for your mental health.

Coloring books are the most relaxing thing I have ever experienced, and as a tiny highschool girl I need all the help I can get de-stressing. (Can't wait until I have to face the real world and real problems!!) I bring a coloring book practically ever - school, a coffee shop, any trips I go on. They are so versatile and gorgeous, and if you are ever taking a little break or have some time free in your day, I highly recommend coloring. There's something so satisfying about coloring, and how it gets you in this zone, where nothing matters besides coloring the certain subject. I love getting lost in the beautiful designs. Besides that, coloring books are great for your mental health.  Coloring (Mandala's specifically) have been proven to reduce stress levels. Coloring allows our mind to shut off and focus on the one thing in front of them, and in my opinion that's super important. We are constantly bombarded with stimuli and in society today, there is always a new task right in front of us. I think coloring books are key in escaping all of that for a bit, and just calming down. This is an Alice in Wonderland coloring book I got in Japantown, and you can find it here.

Baths are amazing - if you do them right. I'm not talking about soaking in water and your own grime - I'm talking a bath bomb or some bath salts (don't do anything weird with them though - just have them use their purpose) adding some flowers. Baths are great for winding down and relaxing. I like to add a book, and some calming music in the mix too. The great things about baths now, is that you have so many ways to make them fit you. Lush is known for their bath bombs, and they have so many different ones, whether you want a floral, softer bath or a fruity colorful bath - they have the one for you. You can also make your own bath bombs pretty easily, or just pour some bath salts or bubble bath and add some flowers. The bath bombs pictured here are the Lush Intergalactic Bath Bomb (here) and the Experimenter Bath Bomb (here) I recommend both!
Hope you all enjoyed this blog post, let me know if you want more posts like this!

Growing Up As a Teenage Girl with the Obamas

With our new president being sworn into office today, I figured I would look back at the Obama's time in office, specifically Michelle Obama. I compiled some of my favorite looks from her and her impact on me and other teenage girls. The Obamas were elected when I was 8 years old. If I'm being honest, I don't remember much about Baracks campaign, because I was 8 and had better things to do. However, I knew that the Obamas were very charismatic, and if I could have voted they would have been my choice. As a little girl politics obviously wasn't my priority, but growing up for the past 8 years has been amazing. Michelle Obama is someone who is an incredible role model to me for various reasons.

Growing up, I would occasionally see her in Disney Channel commercials going on about eating healthy and such. At the time, I didn't really care about what she was doing for healthy food, because let's be real, at age 9, I wasn't choosing my meals, my parents were. However, looking back at it now, I'm glad Michelle made that her cause, because I saw the effects. My first year in middle school, I was told that all vending machines were gone, which pissed me off a bit because who doesn't want affordable junk food that my parents won't let me have at home? Um, 11 year me said yes wholeheartedly. However, that was an important thing for our country. Obesity is a huge issue, and her healthy eating movement really improved a lot of things.

Michelle Obama's movement grew though, towards encouraging girls all around the world to pursue further education, and to fight for what they believe in. This may sound like the same old feminist rant, but I believe its very important. In a world that is slowly warming up to feminism and where girls are taking huge steps forward in choosing career and educational paths that are typically male dominant, this is huge. Its so amazing to see it, whether through the TV, her snapchat, or Youtube its truly amazing.

The most important thing Michelle Obama brought to us within her presidency was her. She is so much, in herself. She provided a huge example to girls of color everywhere, through everything she did. She proved that you didn't have to be white woman to be the first lady. Every speech, every conference, every meeting she displayed incredible class and leadership. Barack Obama may have been our president for the past 8 years, but Michelle Obama is who truly inspired me, and millions of girls throughout the nation.

What was your favorite moment with the Obamas? How do you feel about the next four years? Let me know!
